Turkey’s scrap import market holds steady
Turkey’s scrap imports prices remained stable this week with fewer orders. It was predicted that stockiests might try to build up their inventories; however, they are not willing to accept the high prices.
According to one mill in Turkey, they imported mixed scrap No.1 and 2 (80:20) at US$332/ton. Offers of last week were between US$350/ton.
Russian scrap exports down in 2009
Russian scrap exports totaled 2.01 million tons in 2009, 68.4 percent lower than in 2008. Among the recipients, Turkey imported 552,000 tons (27.5 percent), a total 76.4 percent lower than last year; 428,000 tons went to Spain (21.3 percent), down by 56.2 percent; and Korea imported 420,000 tons (20.9 percent) down by 65 percent. Total Russian exports of scrap in 2008 were 6.35 million tons; in 2007, 7.94 million tons; and in 2006, 9.71 million tons.
